The 7 Levels of of Locomotion Movement Training

In addition to the video I made above, I wanted to elaborate and offer some additional resources for movement enthusiasts wishing to explore the different levels of Locomotion Movement Training.

Firstly, let me explain what I mean by "levels".

I use this term to describe the particular zone of space in which a skill is performed.

There are 7 primary levels I practice and teach in:

1. Floor Work (Laying)

2. Crawling

3. Low Gait (Low Squat)

4. Standing

5. Inverting

6. Soft Acrobatics (One Point of Contact)

7. Acrobatics (Flips - Leaving the Ground).

I've made many videos on various skills in each of these zones. Those references can be found here:-

1. Level 1 - Rolling

2. Level 2 - Crawling - Check out my Ultimate Lizard Guide with over 13 Lizard Crawl Variations

3. Level 3 - Low Gait (Low Squat Skills)

4. Level 3 - Standing Transitions

4. Level 4 - Inverting

5. Level 5 - Soft Acrobatics check out the Forward Cartwheel or the Monkey Flip

6. Acrobatics - Check out the Butterfly Kick

My intentional practice in each of these zones is to create greater awareness within my body and how it moves through space in these different physical planes.

There are also many benefits of practicing with each zone, including sensuality and "touch" with the floor, hip, ankle and knee strength and mobility, shoulder health, awareness in space, explosiveness, speed and dynamic power, plus balance and the many mental health benefits.

With just the floor and your own bodyweight, there are 7 essential levels to master within the game of locomotion movement and infinite skills, combinations and improvisations to explore which is why this practice is so rewarding.

My structured online course Locomotion Flow offers guided direction to start exploring many skills within these levels so you can create a practice that allows you to travel between them at will and in style.

The results, not just for myself but for my countless students are better physicality, strength, mobility, balance and much more in addition to offering a mindful approach to movement.

Happy Moving.
